Back to projects
Back in Costa Rica, I used to run a small business with my illustrations and handmade watercolor paints. In 2020 I took on the task to design a planner for next year. I made the binders by hand following common bookbinding techniques but replacing the stitching with binder clips and sold the planner pages and blank or lined paper packs separately.
For this year's planner my concept an illustrated travel journal / scrapbook. The person would accompany Evelyn to travel to the fantasy continent Haskana. I'm not a skilled writer but I wrote a few bits as if it was Evelyn writing in her journal about her travels and friends she met, she would also decorate it with polaroid pictures, make little doodles and tape stuff with washi tape.
Here are some assets I drew for the planner.
Evelyn's character design sheet. Evelyn is a traveler so I wanted to convey that in her character design.
Here is how they were used throughout the planner. First the planner cover:
The calendar and intro page for personal information:
Before each month there would be a full size illustration or story spread with a polaroid picture to tell a bit of Evelyn's travels.
Monthly and weekly spreads. The colors of the tape will change throughout the planner every few months.
To help the clients immerse a little more into the story I designed an old fashioned boarding pass and invite letter and enclosed them in a letter. Evelyn would invite them to travel with her for the next year.
Some of the illustrations I made for the monthly spreads.
Here are some of the promotional pictures I took to post on my business Instagram account and promote the planner.
